About Us

Welcome to the Imperial Court of Minnesota!

Who Are We?

International Court System

The International Imperial Court System (IICS) also known as the International Court System is one of the oldest and largest LGBTQ+ organizations in the world. ICS began in 1965 when founder Jose Sarria crowned herself Empress of San Francisco. San Francisco is now known as the mother court of the ICS system. The ICS is currently lead by Nicole the Great; Queen Mother I of the Americas.

The Imperial Court System is a grassroots network of organizations that works to build community
relationships for equality and raise money for charitable causes. Featured in the Amazon Documentary “Fifty Years of Fabulous”, the ICS system gained momentum and size during the AIDS pandemic as a way to raise funds to support those HIV/AIDS organizations in cities across the nation that cared for those infected with HIV. The Imperial Court System is the second largest LGBTQ+ organization in the world, surpassed only by the Metropolitan Community Church, with over 65 chapters across all of North America.

Imperial Court of Minnesota

We are a local chapter of the International Court System (ICS) that supports
the LGBTQ+ community through fundraising, volunteer work, and community
engagement. The Minnesota chapter, Imperial Court of MN (ICOM), was founded
in 1991 by Shannon Domonique, Thomas S. Hansen, Michael Spivak, and Craig &
Nancy Maehling. We are a registered 501c3 with the State of Minnesota.

Where Are We?

Our membership primarily consists of people living in the Twin Cities metro area but is open to any MN resident over the age of 18. We host functions in locations across the state. We have monthly meetings for the Board of Directors and General Court (Assembly), at this time due to the COVID pandemic our meetings have moved to a virtual setting and plans are to continue to meet in this manner until further notice. Additionally, we have members who have received a Lifetime Title that make up a sub-group called the Imperial Council.
